POSTER-11-x-17-CLERKS-1-669x1024Cinema Under the Influence will pay homage the to bygone VHS era on Saturday, May 23 starting at 7pm. Join them at the Chain Theatre in Long Island City for a special screening of Kevin Smith’s cult classic, Clerks as well as Len Cella’s Moron Movies.

In addition to the films, prepaid admissions gets you beer sponsored by Finback Brewery, and two chances in the raffle to win one of many prizes from local small businesses. (One ticket if purchased at the door.) Here’s what the guys at Cinema Under the Influence say about it:

The evening starts at 7pm with a reception sponsored by Finback Brewery and a raffle featuring donations from local businesses like the Astoria Book Shop, Queens Comfort, Videology, and Royal Collectibles, as well as Phickles Pickles of Athens, GA. VCR/TV installations–looping VHS classics–will be set-up in the lobby. The screening will commence at 8pm with an exclusive video introduction from Len Cella and selections from his pioneering Moron Movies, hand-picked by the filmmaker himself. These comedy microshorts–often shown on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” in the ’80s–were popularized and proliferated by easy-to-copy, simple-to-share VHS cassettes.
Tickets are $15 and include the films, free beer, and a raffle chance. Advance tickets include two chances at the raffle and can be purchased here.
This event is the perfect pause between Barbeque and the beach this Memorial Day Weekend!
