To many residents, Long Island City begins and ends with Hunters Point, and perhaps Court Square. But LIC is bigger than you may realize—spanning an impressive 5.5 square miles. Dozens of hotels have popped up,with more on the way, in surrounding neighborhoods of LIC, like Dutch Kills and Queens Plaza. These hotels are worth seeking out as many boast break taking views of the city and offer a refreshing alternative to the bars of Hunters Point. (Which we love, but it’s always good to keep an expanding roster of go to spots, don’t you think?) Built in 2007, The Sheraton Four Points is one such hotel. A Starwood hotel that your visitors will be comfortable booking. What might be unexpected however, is their Vista Ballroom and Penthouse Sky Lounge. Two venues within the hotel that are available for both private parties, or just a week night happy hour. I was able to sit down with Mike Bekker, Events Coordinator for both venues, and learn more about the Ballroom and the Rooftop lounge. People want to have events in LIC because of the views. From weddings to baby showers, corporate events to small company happy hours, everyone loves the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop to their party. As LIC becomes less of a secret (Cat has most certainly been let out of the bag), the demands for such spaces has increased significantly. Likewise, the prices have moved accordingly. Bekker is committed to keeping the price points at Vista accessible and accommodating to several budgets. His passion for making people’s vision for their party was palpable, and I got the very strong feeling that if you book an event here, you will be taken care of. The ballroom is an indoor formal space that can seat up to 150 people. The room is not large, but it is well appointed and can be re-configured depending on the needs of a specific event. The drama lies in the sweeping views that encompass three sides. There is a castle in the sky feeling that consumes you when you as you take in the view. The Vista Skylounge is one of the best rooftop views I’ve seen. It is simply an awesome setting for birthday party, girls night out, or even an engagement party. Bekker says a lot of people who get book the reception in the ballroom, will also reserve the Rooftop for cocktail hour. It can be formal or casual depending on what you do with the space, but again, it’s all about the view. As the sky went from dusk to dark, I marveled at the city lighting up before my eyes. It was hard to leave. Fortunately, this rooftop is open weeknights for happy hour. If you aren’t booking a private party any time soon, be sure to drop by after work to enjoy a cocktail and relax while the city bustles far below you. If you are looking to book a private event of any size, be sure to mention this post for special rates, and contact Mike Bekker directly. 917.602.8408 or Email: firstname.lastname@example.org Vista Penthouse Ballroom and Skylounge at the Four Points Sheraton, 27-05 39th Ave., Long Island City. 718.786.8500.
