I’ve attended for three years and the name is a little bit, well…deceiving. You will have far more than a taste of LIC. You will happily eat your way through the festival. In addition to food, small businesses are highlighted through raffle prizes, and for the first time ever, the event has honorees this year. Read more about the history and significance of the event from the founder herself- Sheila Lewandowski, Executive Director of the Chocolate Factory Theatre.
10 years ago we (Brian Rogers and me) had an idea to start this event because we wanted to throw a ‘gala’ that had all of the people and peers present that we wanted to hang out with. And, not coming from $$ we couldn’t just roll the roladex and get the big checks. Of course we forgot about the part about not getting to ‘hang’ with folks at your own party but I do enjoy the after-party and dance dance dance (right Luis- you know who I’m talking about dance partner/restaurant owner.)
My fellow local business women and men, artists, neighbors, family, and friends come together and in doing so we raise funds for The Chocolate Factory Theater. Now I ran a few other nonprofits before this and their galas raised more money for them and still do, but … I want to be at this one because I look around and am reminded of the incredible people who make a community real. The vibe is amazing.
I can’t wait to attend tonight with my business partner and We Heart Astoria + LIC peers. Look for our food reviews and photos later this week. And remember, tickets are still available at the door starting at 4:30pm today!
